Results of IBO 2026

The 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO 2026) has been successfully concluded in Vilnius, bringing together 302 students from 78 countries and teams around the world. After intense theoretical and practical competitions, a total of 185 medals were awarded to participants – 33 gold, 60 silver, and 92 bronze; an additional 30 IBO participants earned honorable mentions. This is one of the largest IBO classes in recent years, gathering the most talented young biologists from around the world.


The highest overall result was achieved by China"s representative Ziheng Wang, who became the winner of the IBO 2026. Among the teams, China, Chinese Taipei, the United States, and South Korea shone the brightest – all four members of each of these countries" teams won gold medals. The teams of Iran and Singapore came close behind the leaders, each bringing home three gold medals and one silver medal.


The host country, Lithuania, also performed excellently at the IBO – all four members of the national team returned with medals. Mykolas Sasnauskas and Kotryna Mieldažytė were awarded silver medals, while Rugilė Burinskaitė and Saulė Vaidelytė won bronze medals.
