Where will IBO 2026 take place?

IBO 2026 will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania from July 12 to 19, 2026. Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania and a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its historic charm, vibrant culture, and green cityscape.

How do I get to Vilnius?

Vilnius is accessible via Vilnius International Airport (VNO), which has direct connections to many European hubs. You can also reach the city by train or bus from nearby countries. The organizing team will provide transportation from the airport to official accommodations.

Do I need a visa to travel to Lithuania?

Lithuania is part of the Schengen Area. Participants from countries outside this area may need a Schengen visa. The organizers will provide official invitation letters to support the visa application process.

What is the currency in Lithuania?

The official currency is the euro (€). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted. ATMs are easily accessible in the city, and currency exchange services are available at the airport and in major areas.

What is the climate like in Vilnius in July?

July is typically warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures between 20°C and 27°C (68°F–81°F). Evenings can be cooler, and occasional rain is possible. We recommend bringing light layers and a small umbrella or rain jacket.

What language is spoken in Lithuania?

The official language is Lithuanian, but English is widely spoken, especially in Vilnius and by young people. All Olympiad events and communications will be conducted in English.

Will transportation be provided during the Olympiad?

Yes. The organizing team will provide transportation within Vilnius for all official IBO 2026 events, including airport transfers, competition venues, and cultural activities.

Will accommodation be provided?

Yes. Accommodation for all registered participants and jury members will be fully arranged and covered by the IBO 2026 organizing team.

What meals will be included?

Participants and jury members will receive three meals per day throughout the event. Special dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher, allergy-specific, etc.) can be indicated during registration.

What cultural activities are planned?

IBO 2026 will feature a rich cultural program designed to help participants and juries experience the best of Lithuania — from its historic sites and traditions to natural landscapes and local cuisine. It’s a chance to learn and connect beyond biology!

Is internet access available?

Yes. Free Wi-Fi will be available in all accommodation and event venues. SIM cards and eSIM options are also available for international visitors.

What should participants bring?

We recommend bringing weather-appropriate clothing, comfortable shoes, a reusable water bottle, necessary medications, and any personal items. A detailed packing list will be shared closer to the event.

What safety measures will be in place?

IBO 2026 will include round-the-clock supervision and support, with medical assistance and emergency contacts always available. Vilnius is a generally safe city, and all venues will be monitored for security.

When and how can I register?

Registration will open in December 2025. Only Country Coordinators who have submitted an official intent to participate will receive access credentials to the password-protected registration system.
