Prof. V. Šikšnys encourages participants to make connections beyond competition

As preparations for the International Biology Olympiad 2026 continue, Patron of the IBO 2026, Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys, distinguished professor at Vilnius University Life Sciences Center, Kavli prize winner, EMBO Council Chair, shares his regard with the global community.

Reflecting on the spirit of the competition, Prof. Šikšnys emphasised: “I know how competitive these olympiads are, but i would like to suggest you to turn your competitors into friends and enjoy your time together in beautiful Vilnius”.

His message highlights one of the core values of the International Biology Olympiad – fostering not only academic achievement, but also international friendship and collaboration among young scientists from around the world.

IBO 2026 will take place in Vilnius from 12-19 July 2026, welcoming students, mentors and jury members from more than 80 countries. The organising team continues its preparations to deliver a world-class scientific and cultural experience in Lithuania’s capital.
