IBO SC and the International Advisors visited Vilnius again

This week, the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) Steering Committee (SC), together with the International Advisors, visited Vilnius, Lithuania, as preparations for IBO 2026 enter their final stretch – with less than 100 days remaining until the event.

The visit marked an important milestone in the organisational process. Throughout the week, the Steering Committee and Advisors worked closely with the local organising team, reviewing key aspects of the event, including logistics, programme planning, and overall coordination. Their input helped refine solutions and ensure that all elements are aligned for a smooth and high-quality Olympiad experience.

A significant focus of the visit was the academic content of the competition. International Advisors reviewed both theoretical and practical exams, and even tested the practical tasks themselves to evaluate their clarity and feasibility.

Member of the SC, Dr. Takao Ishikawa, shared his positive impression:
“The whole process seems to be very well organized. I"m confident that if the preparation process is organized so well, the main event itself will also be very well rounded.”

The collaborative approach taken by the academic team also stood out. Prof. Anindya Sinha, International Advisor, noted:
“I like the fact that a very large number of teachers and researchers of Vilnius University are involved in creating questions. Even if they are not experienced in this, they are willing to adapt and change, they appreciate the opportunity to learn.”

Beyond logistics and academic preparation, the visit also highlighted the strength of the organising team itself. Close cooperation and a positive working atmosphere were evident throughout the week. As Dr. José António Matos, International Advisor, observed:
“I think the team is amazing, working very well together. Something I found very interesting is that everybody is very happy doing it.”

With preparations progressing steadily and strong international support, the IBO 2026 organisers are moving confidently toward delivering a world-class event. We look forward to welcoming participants from around the globe in just 94 days!
